Webcor 6V6GT with EF86 and ECC83 pres & VVR

0:57 minutes (1.31 MB)

This riff is played 4 times. The 1st time through a Mullard ECC83 (both triodes in parallel), 2nd through the old stock Telefunken EF86, and third through BOTH preamp tubes. The fourth riff same as 3rd, but with UR12's VVR circuit turned all the way down. The master volume is dimed all the time. The speaker is an inexpensive 12" Eminence ceramic in an open back cabinet. Mic is SM57 about 12" away. Bridge humbucker.

B+ is 308V at the plate of the power tube.

The power tube is an old stock Webcor 6V6GT.

A first! By me! This is a short clip of some late night clean pickin' on my 2k Mexican Strat plugged into my Calico Beast vJr, and using the post-OT line out to feed the input of a Lexicon MPX G2 (factory patch 11 - rotary), which feeds my twin Funk 47 VJr's.

Recording is done by way of a Shure SM57 (on the Beast) straight to a Behringer UB-802 mixer, and Rhode NT-5 stereo pair (on the Funk 47's) via twin ART Tube PAC's into the Behringer. Captured digitally in 16bit/44kHz by Korg MR-1, and converted to hi-res MP3 by Cakewalk Pyro.

Nasty Wench Part 2

1:06 minutes (2.01 MB)

Tubes: 2 x JJ ECC83s, JJ KT77. Guitars: No-name $60 Strat copy, Godin Solidac, Gibson Les Paul Studio. Speakers: Marshall 1936 w/Greenbacks.
This is basically my take on the Good Girl with two parallel preamp tubes. The second tube has separate cathode resistors and bypass caps set to different values. V1 = 47k load resistor, 820R cathode, 2.2uF bypass cap. V2 = 51k load resistor, 1.5k cathode, 3.3uF bypass cap, 680r cathode, 1uF bypass cap. I wanted to post this clip as a baseline before adding the third preamp tube back in. Thanks.

Marshallized Vjr

Not sure what the backing track is...a buddy emailed it to me to add a guitar part to.

Excuse the sloppiness and rough mix...this was simply a test to see that we could do this back and forth. I just plugged in, turned on, hit record, and started noodling.

Marshall modded Vjr cranked, pushed with a homebrew modified TS, close mic'd w/SM57. Les Paul w/PAFs. No EQ added. Room verb and delay only. Speaker is a G12H100 in a small Lopo 1x12 cabinet.

Eminence Lady Luck VS Celestion Super 8

2:26 minutes (2.8 MB)

Comparison between stock Em speaker and a Super 8. Both speakers not fully broken in. Two clips, clean and distorted (using a TS808). Em comes first, then the Super 8. Recorded using my Tom Anderson Drop Top and a Sennheiser e606 mic.

F12 Blackheart Blues

2:10 minutes (2.49 MB)

A blue number in the vein of Eric Clapton/Bluesbreakers. Guitar is stock Telecaster set to middle position, straight into modded Blackheart BH5H head, 8 ohms out to a custom 1x12 cabinet with a Weber Signature series 12" speaker.

Marshallized EVJ, Lo-gain blues, CF OFF

1:56 minutes (2.22 MB)

Marshallized EVJ with Tweed tone, VVR, and CF. VVR all the way up, CF off, Tweed at 1 o'clock. Volume at 3 o'clock.
Played with a strat with lollar blondes pups. Overdrive controlled with guitar volume. Mostly on bridge pup, but switch to neck at one point.
Mic'd with SM-57 about 3" from grill, 1" off the center of the cone. Avatar 2x12 closed back cab with Eminence Legend V12's. Mic --> dbx mic pre-amp --> toneport --> gearbox --> garageband.
Only processing is medium hall reverb thru gearbox.

Marshallized EVJ, Hi-gain blues, TS-9, CF ON, Strat

1:56 minutes (2.22 MB)

Same settings as below, but this time with a Keeley TS-9 and conjunctive filter ON. TS-9 settings are Gain = 9 o'clock, Tone = noon, Level = noon. The TS-9 is really serving more as a boost than an overdrive pedal in this situation.
The CF really smooths out the lead on the strat.
Sorry for the sloppy playing...just wanted to get something up.
